What is a motorcycle fairing?
A motorcycle fairing is a shell, typically made from fiberglass or plastic, placed on the forks or frame of a motorcycle.
What is the purpose of a motorcycle fairing?
A motorcycle fairing is used to manipulate airflow, either for better performance or greater comfort for the rider. However, it should be noted that wind protection may not always be improved. If a motorcycle fairing is angled too far up or down, it could negatively affect air manipulation, resulting in vibration at the front end of the motorcycle. We always recommend adjusting and testing to determine if the adjustment made is beneficial or requires further improvement.
What brands of motorcycles does Vector Batwing Fairing™ produce fairings for?
As an aftermarket brand, we do not produce factory motorcycle fairings for any motorcycle company. Vector Batwing Fairing™ produces aftermarket batwing motorcycle fairings for many popular leading motorcycle brands like Harley-Davidson, Honda, Yamaha, Indian, and Kawasaki. Each of our batwing fairings is carefully designed for a specific motorcycle model; they are not generic or “one size fits all” motorcycle fairings.
Why is your pricing lower than other batwing fairing manufacturers?
We aim to redefine the idea that quality can be affordable. To keep our pricing as low as possible, we maintain minimal overhead. This includes attending fewer shows, relying on word-of-mouth sales, and not having any dealers or distributors. However, we can ship anywhere in the contiguous United States, so getting a Vector Batwing Fairing™ couldn’t be easier!
How do I install a Vector Batwing Fairing™?
Installation will vary for each model. We try to use as much factory hardware as possible in all situations. However, the motorcycles we produce fairings for were never originally intended to have a batwing fairing installed. In some instances, you may need to make modifications to the motorcycle or the batwing fairing. There are many different models, factory upgrades, and custom aftermarket parts that can be added to motorcycles.
Does a Vector Batwing Fairing™ need to be painted?
Our motorcycle fairings are finished with a gelcoat. Much like a boat, this finish protects against damage and enhances appearance. When properly maintained, gelcoat can last for over ten years.
What is the best way to maintain gelcoat?
Regular cleaning, polishing, and waxing will keep gelcoat in its best condition. Always use a mild, non-abrasive soap. Soaps that contain wax provide added benefit for long-term durability. We recommend using fiberglass-specific polish every three to six months, depending on your riding conditions and frequency.
Is a batwing fairing capable of being painted?
Absolutely! The gelcoat on our batwing fairing can be painted over after thoroughly sanding the top layer. Note that the fiberglass and gelcoat must be in good condition, meaning no cracks, stains, or chalky oxidation. Always clean the fairing before and after sanding, and dry it thoroughly.
Can cracks in the Vector Batwing Fairing™ be repaired, or will it need to be replaced?
Our motorcycle fairings are made from hand-laid fiberglass, so they can be repaired. In most situations, large or small cracks can be repaired at a substantially lower cost than replacing the entire batwing fairing. Aside from the durability of fiberglass, this is one of the primary reasons we chose to use fiberglass in our motorcycle fairings.
